Founder and Co-DIrector
Candice is the Founder and Director of Waste-ED, where she leads the organisation’s consulting strategy, programme design, and day-to-day operations. With over 14 years of experience in waste education and circular economy systems, she bridges strategic planning with practical implementation to deliver high-impact solutions.
Her expertise spans policy advising, curriculum development, and stakeholder engagement, ensuring every project is rooted in both technical rigour and community relevance. Candice’s leadership and vision continue to shape Waste-ED’s hybrid growth model, guiding its evolution as a trusted force in sustainable development across South Africa and beyond.

Matt Baker
Co Director and Operations
Matt is the Co-Director and Operations Lead at Waste-ED, where he oversees the development and delivery of systems-based waste solutions across both the entities consulting and community-facing work.
With a strong background in operations, logistics, and social impact implementation, Matt has played a central role in translating Waste-ED’s vision into practical, scalable systems that respond to the realities of South African communities. Matt’s ability to coordinate teams, manage timelines, and support on-the-ground implementation ensures that technical frameworks become working solutions.
His work is grounded in practicality, precision, and a deep commitment to environmental justice, making him a key force in scaling Waste-ED’s mission across South Africa and beyond.

Sabata Rekwele Mmatli
Co-Director (NPC)
Sabata is the Co-Director of Waste-ED NPC, where he provides strategic oversight and support across the organisation’s education, advocacy, and community development work.
With a strong commitment to environmental equity and social justice, Sabata brings a grounding presence to the team—helping align programmes with their broader impact goals.
His collaborative leadership style and systems-thinking approach ensure that Waste-ED’s community-driven initiatives remain responsive, inclusive, and rooted in long-term sustainability. Education & Training Developer
Michelle is the Education & Training Developer at Waste-ED, where she supports the design and delivery of impactful environmental education content across the organisation’s programmes.
A seasoned environmentalist and sustainability advocate, Michelle brings a deep knowledge of ecological systems, curriculum development, and community facilitation.
Her insight has shaped many of Waste-ED’s most effective school and community initiatives.

Consultant & Programme Facilitator
Zintle is a dedicated waste system consultant and community facilitator who brings academic insight and lived experience to Waste-ED’s grassroots education work.
With a Master’s in Philosophy and a strong foundation in social work, she is passionate about driving sustainable behaviour change and community empowerment. Zintle has worked extensively with informal traders, schools, and the public to promote waste separation and environmental awareness, while also contributing to research and advocacy around social protection for waste reclaimers. Her facilitation style is grounded in empathy, systems thinking, and a deep commitment to sustainability and social justice.

Xolisa Mdleleni
Environmental Educator & Programme Facilitator
Xolisa is a dynamic educator and facilitator within the Waste-ED Collective, with hands-on experience delivering waste education programmes in schools, universities, and community spaces.
With a background in urban agriculture, engineering, and environmental facilitation, Xolisa brings a systems-thinking mindset and strong leadership to every project. His work spans monthly school programme delivery, youth engagement, public-facing education, and event facilitation—including high-profile campaigns like Better.Bellville.Together. Chris is a Creative Advisor and Environmental Consultant with Waste-ED, where he supports the enterprise’s strategic storytelling, educational design, and public engagement efforts.
As founder of The Cyclical Collective, Chris brings a unique ability to merge environmental advocacy with the arts, helping to craft narratives that inspire action and foster systemic change. With experience in facilitation, content development, and performance, he contributes to Waste-ED’s vision through a creative, community-rooted lens—offering both practical input and strategic guidance across programmes and campaigns.
